The Aquarium, at Lakeside, the Laurel and Hardy Museum at Ulverston, the outdoor Zoo at Dalton, Steam Trains run through Eskdale from Ravenglass and from Haverthwaite to Lakeside, the Beatrice Potter Museum and the Peter Rabbit Tales at Ambleside, Trooters World of Animals at Keswick, The Toy and Model Museum at Cockermouth or the Climbing Wall at Kendal all provide amazing Family Entertainment, aside from the more usual cruises on Lake Windermere or a wealth of Historic Houses, Gardens, museums and Art Galleries for the not so young.

CYCLING AT CARTMEL HOLIDAY COTTAGES
How about eating your way round the Lake District and burning off a few calories too? If you bring your bikes on the train, Cartmel Holiday Cottages will, by prior arrangement, collect your luggage from the station, and you can find good cycling route suggestions on the GoLakes Website.
There's a Bike Hire facility nearby in Cartmel, Lakeland Segways, at the Race Course car park. It hires standard and electric bikes as well as Segways.

BICYCLING & WALKING TRAILS

DALES WAY - 84 mile Hike: Ilkley, West Yorkshire, to Bowness on Windermere. A relatively undemanding walk of 84 miles, much of it along riverside paths and passing through lovely valleys and delightful villages.

ESKDALE TRAIL Take your bike on the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway & bike the return journey through the beatiful Eskdale Valley. The route is virtually traffic free. Guide: The Eskdale Trail. Available at local Tourist Information Centres or from Ravenglass Station.

TREKKING
Easily accessible, yet offering an amazing range of climbs from the simply exhilarating to the truly challenging, the Lake District has the ideal climbing terrain for beginner and expert alike.
With an amazing variety of mountains, walks and scrambles, all to be discovered within a comparatively small area, the Lakes host some of the best rambles and pathways in the UK. Routes range from classic lake shore circuits to hidden waterfalls and isolated tarns, and from fairy-tale streams to the windswept peaks of Scafell Pike and Helvellyn, with its daunting 'Striding Edge'. Access is generally easy, but close adherence to rights of way should be followed, sticking to the paths where possible. And at the end of your walk, where better to rest your feet and mull over the day than in one of the district's legendary inns?
